Well, it’s been a bit of a journey!
When I first decided to set up a website devoted to my writing, I did quite a bit of research into what would be the best site to use, hosting, all that kind of thing. I’m not the most IT literate person in the world. My age means that I didn’t grow up with the technology the way younger people did. I still remember trying to learn coding in BASIC on one of the now archaic, and valuable, Sinclair computers – the ZX, the one with the rubber keyboard. And then the early arcade games – Space Invaders and Pong. I sat up so late at nights playing those addictive games that I was bleary-eyed at work next day, and decided I had to either give them up, or pack in work!
These days I do use my laptop a great deal for my writing, and I’ve a fair general knowledge of how things work. But website development is a whole new area for me and it has been an interesting learning curve. The reviews said WordPress is definitely the Gold Standard for this, even if not the most intuitive in the world. But I did try others, and didn’t find them any easier. Probably more due to my own ineptitude more than to their systems.
Anyway, with the aid of some lovely people on youtube, who have helped guide me through the processes, as well as WordPress’ own guidance, at last – here am I! I must say, with a small smile of satisfaction at having achieved what a few days ago seemed well-nigh impossible. Instead of flinging my laptop away and running around in circles screaming (my usual go-to in cases of frustration! Well, that or a good cuppa and a chocolate biscuit) I decided to emulate a friend who was developing her technique with a new CAD programme. I admired her patience and tenacity, and have done my best to do likewise.
Here is the result. I hope you find it interesting, and will come back again. I’ll be updating reasonably frequently, and trying to make my writings of value. Well, ok; a bit of reminiscence never hurt anyone – did it?!
All my best to you and those you love
